So we hiked straight up for a half an hour above Lake Khecheopairi to a small village. There was a backpackers guest house where we had tea and popcorn.
We were invited into a hut next to the guest house where an old man had set up a lovely shrine. He said that he had been a cook for the Dalai Lama on the trek after 1959 when he escaped from the Chinese seizing of Tibet.
There was a school in the village for young Buddhist monks who were enthralled by a balloon inflated and released by one of our tour group members.
