We are on the road from the border town of Phuentsholing to the capital town of Thimphu. The road was the first one built in Bhutan, in 1960. It is very quiet compared to Indian roads. Since 2008 they have been upgrading the road. The work is done by Indians.
There are 700,000 people in a country the size of Switzerland with 100,000 in Thimphu. There are no traffic lights in Thimphu, just one traffic cop directing traffic. The major source of income for Bhutan is hydroelectric power sold to India and tourism.
This is a Bhutanese farmer in local dress on the road to Thimphu.
