Rangpur

We went to the 19th century Tajhat Palace and Kali Mandir, a Hindu temple. Both show strong British influence. The temple is dedicated to Kali, a wife of Shiva, the patron saint of bandits.
But the highlight was the trip between the two sites on a bicycle rickshaw. Good pictures will have to be added later.
Rickshaws, both motorized and manual, are a prime mode of transportation all over the country. The motorized ones in Dhaka have both the driver and passengers enclosed in cages-- defensive driving. Outside of Dhaka, the motorized rickshaws are very new and all are electrified. A large percentage of the electrical use outside Dhaka is dedicated to the rickshaws. Unfortunately, electricity here is generated by gas and coal. But don't worry. The Russians have offered to build a nuclear power plant.
